Foster Care

Since having to leave our previous shelter in Port Douglas the organisation has become a foster based rescue organisation. All foster carers must complete a foster application, sign an agreement and undergo a brief home check. This way, when it comes time to place an animal in care, we can place it in a foster home suitable for its needs.

Our foster carers are the heart of our organisation, not only do they save lives but they make a significant difference to the lives of the pets in their care. The pets we rescue come into foster care for many reasons, usually through no fault of their own. As a foster carer you will be required to provide food, shelter and love to the dog in your care. We also ask that you try and teach your dog some basic commands (if they don’t already know them). Things like sit, drop, having the dog walk comfortably on a lead and manners around their breakfast and dinner will help ensure a better transition into a new home. Socialisation is also really important, with both humans and other dogs.

All pets are de-sexed, vaccinated, micro-chipped and wormed when they come into foster care.
